Nothing says springtime like the beautiful narcissus, commonly known as the daffodil. Bright and cheerful, they bring a sense of optimism for the year ahead.
There are many different varieties of narcissus, large and small, and they not only look beautiful in gardens and public spaces, but they add colour, texture and often scent to bouquets and arrangements.
Did You Know?
Narcissi are said to be the flower to celebrate a 10th wedding anniversary.
Did You Know?
Prince Charles receives one daffodil each year for the unattended land on the Isles of Scilly.
The daffodil was one of the 17 flowers recreated on icing to decorate Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding cake.
Did You Know?
Wales has the daffodil as it national emblem – it is traditionally worn on St. David's Day.
There are more than 50 species and over 25,000 varieties of daffodil.
We've selected our favourite gifts featuring the narcissus from our Spring Collection…
Sol d'or and paper whites are varieties that have multiple small heads per stems. Sol d'or are yellow with orange cores and paper whites are a crisp white.
Both varieties have a fresh, heady scent, which make them beautiful gifts. We've used them here to complement other seasonal flowers to create two very picturesque arrangements, which are perfect for springtime occasions.
The humble yellow daffodil is a lovely addition to a bouquet of fresh seasonal flowers to give it a real springtime feels. Our Extra Large Spring Hand-tied would make a beautiful gift for a birthday or other special occasion.
Or you could choose to fill a vase with daffodils alone, making a real statement of spring. Our Simply 100 daffodils make a very generous gift that can either be displayed in one large vase, or split into several vases throughout the home.
The tête-à-tête variety of narcissus is beautifully fragrant and a popular plant in gardens across the country. With up to 20 flower heads per bulb, just a few bulbs can create a mass of colour to brighten up a spring day.
We've chosen to plant some tête-à-tête bulbs in a whitewashed woven softwood basket, which is perfect to display inside the home. The bulbs can then be transferred to the garden so they will flower again year after year.
