Spring is just around the corner and with it comes the promise of lighter evenings, sunnier days and one very special occasion in the shape of Mother’s Day on Sunday 11th March.
The day of the year dedicated to celebrating Mum, we have a whole host of beautiful bouquets to help you do just that. Our collection of Mother’s Day flowers offers something for every mum; whether she loves the just-picked look of a cottage garden bouquet or something neat and chic to display pride of place on the kitchen table.
One of the stand out designs from the collection is our stunning Sweet Pastels Mother’s Day Hand-tied. We caught up with Interflora designer Charlotte Davies, from Abergavenny in Wales to find out more about the inspiration behind the bouquet.
What flowers did you choose to use in this design and why?
The varieties I chose to showcase in this design are (below: left to right) delicate ‘Primadonna’ alstroemeria (shown in bud), peach ‘Avalanche’ roses, fluffy pink carnations and gorgeous ‘Miss Piggy’ roses. Each flower was chosen because it brings special something to the bouquet be it colour, texture or scent. I also wanted to include lots of luscious foliage to really set off the flowers. Here I’ve used trails of wispy thalspi (known as ‘Green Bell’ to you gardeners) to give the bouquet a sense of movement and create that Country Garden look that is so popular at Mother’s Day.
Do you have a favourite stem?
The two tone ‘Miss Piggy’ roses (above centre) really steal the show in this bouquet. With their punchy apricot centres and softer pink outer petals, these roses are pretty but with a cool edge – perfect for the modern mum.
Tell us about the colour palette.
For Mother’s Day I wanted to go vintage with shades of pink, washed out coral and pistachio green. When designing this bouquet I took a lot of inspiration from the subdued shades of the 1970’s. The overall look is very soft and feminine but there’s a real strength about the colour choices too.
Our Mother’s Day Sweet Pastels Hand-tied is available to order for delivery up until Sunday 11th March.
