Florists to Compete For Prestigious Title at RHS Hampton Court

  • Interflora

For nearly 60 years Interflora’s floristry competitions have given the finest floral designers from across the country the opportunity to showcase their incredible skills and creativity and to compete for the highly coveted title of Interflora Florist of the Year. The prestigious title creates a huge stepping stone for future success, with previous competition winners having  gone on to gain worldwide recognition for their floristry prowess. With such high stakes, the competition is set to be fiercest yet!

The Venue

Traditionally held every four years, the 2018 Interflora Florist of The Year grand final will be hosted at RHS Hampton Court Palace on Tuesday 3rd July. It is the first time the competition has been held at the prestigious flower show and will no doubt add to the excitement and pressure felt by our five finalists – as they battle it out in front of a live audience.

The Finalists

Each of the competitors has made it to the final after fending off serious competition during a round of regional heats held across the UK and Ireland last year. After months of planning and preparation, one of them will be crowned Interflora Florist of the Year on stage in the Floral Design Studio marquee on 3rd July. Who will it be?

The Theme

So what will our competition finalists be creating on the day? Well, this year’s competition has a quintessentially British theme – ‘A Summer Garden Party’! Our finalists will capture their own essence of al fresco dining in their stunning floral displays and will each be making a picnic basket, a garden parasol, a table arrangement and a surprise item which will be announced on the day.

The florists will have made their floral picnic basket prior to the competition and will be bringing it along to be judged on the day of the final. The other creations, a garden parasol, table arrangement and the surprise item, will be created within a set time limit and in front of an audience of show visitors. The finished pieces will then be on display to be enjoyed by the 14,000 visitors throughout show week (3rd-8th July), alongside a series of live demonstrations from some of our top designers.

The Judges

The competition will be judged by two accredited members of the UK Floristry Judges’ Guild. The jury will be looking for certain aspects when marking the designs – each piece created will be judged on idea, colour, composition and technique.

The Prize

As well as earning themselves the sought after title of Florist of the Year, the winner will bag themselves £1,000 prize money and the opportunity to represent the Interflora British Unit at the FTD Interflora World Cup in Philadelphia, USA in March 2019!

The runners up, coming 2nd and 3rd, won’t be going away empty handed as they will also receive prize money for their efforts.

Results of the competition will be announced on stage at 5.30pm on Tuesday 3rd July, so if you’re at the show, come along and watch us crown the winner!
